Who We Are
The connectivity community is committed to catalyzing America’s potential by delivering the lawful content that unlocks ideas, fuels the digital economy, and improves people’s lives. When bad actors use pirated content, they undermine the principles for which we all stand.
It’s also possible for the remedies to be worse than the disease. If legislation moves forward, it needs to be rooted in the understanding that some legal theories and proposals don’t work, easily slip into censorship, and ultimately threaten broadband investment and essential services.
The Common Sense Copyright Coalition brings a balanced, practical voice to the table to support smart, workable copyright solutions that protect creators without undermining the networks and connectivity that power American innovation. Coalition members include AT&T, Charter, Comcast, Cox, and Verizon.
Our
Principles
We Stand for Balance
Copyright enforcement must protect creators without undermining the networks that deliver lawful content. Connectivity providers are the backbone of everything from education and healthcare to small business and entertainment. Effective policy must support innovation, access, and connectivity—not threaten it.
We Oppose Misplaced Liability
Rightsholders are pushing dangerous legal theories that expand the role and risk of internet providers far beyond what the law requires. These efforts distort existing frameworks and expose internet providers to massive, unjustified liability. Imposing new obligations—without providing clear legal immunity for complying with them—would only increase that risk, chilling broadband investment and harming communities nationwide.
We Support Accountability That Works
Copyright enforcement must be rooted in due process, transparency, and shared responsibility. Real solutions require collaboration across the ecosystem, focusing enforcement where it matters most—on those profiting from piracy, not the neutral networks connecting Americans to the internet.
